Review: Crafts ‘n Things magazine
![]()
Full disclosure: For several years I worked in the craft industry. I designed projects for books, magazines and TV shows. I wrote a craft book, designed craft products/tools/kits and taped over 250 on-air demonstrations on Carol Duvall/HGTV
& DIY, QVC, PBS and more. I loved working in the craft industry and still have lots of great girlfriends in the industry.
I love crafts and crafting – and believe it is a wonderful activity for girlfriends to do together and a great way of making personalized girlfriend gifts. Handcrafted items express our personality and even reduce stress – like being with girlfriends!

So, when Mom Central asked me to review Crafts ‘n Things, I couldn’t say ‘YES!’ fast enough! I love craft magazines and, if you haven’t noticed, there are almost none left with general crafts. There are great beading or scrapbooking publications, but few with a broad spectrum of crafty inspiration. Crafts ‘n Things is packed full of creative ideas from painting to paper crafts, budget crafting to decorative decor – perfect for all kinds of ideas! They even have recipes and general how-to info, like embroidery stitches.
For example, the February 2009 issue has over 200+ ‘heartfelt creations on a real-life budget’ including:
- Cabled Purse – beautiful knitting project!
- Inspirational Journal – stamped and perfect for a year of journaling or a girlfriend gratitude journal
- “Trashy Treasure” Junk Necklace – funky, fun wearable art
But they don’t stop there! www.CraftsnThings.com has online ideas/projects, a varied and vast free newsletter as well as a digital version for subscribers.
For all moms, teachers and crafty girls, Crafts ‘n Things is the best craft publication I’ve read in a long time!
Thanks Mom Central and Crafts ‘n Things for sharing your creativity with all of us!

Does anyone have a Doll and Doll bed pattern from Crtafts n Things, probaby 1980? The bed was made of wood, white with dark pink trim and the doll had a dress and a night gown.
I made three of them for my granddaughters, but they were lost when they returned from Germany. Some how ,I have lost that issue of Crafts and Things . I would like to make it for my 4 great grandaughters. I would be very grateful. Thank you
