The wonder of Santa and anticipation of gifts, the twinkling lights and drives through neighborhoods to see decorated homes, the store windows filled with elves and, oh how I loved, circling my favorites in the toy section of the Sears catalog!

This special season takes me back to a simpler time when family and friends were nearby and my only concern was if I would get my beloved Dancerina doll for Christmas.

The wonder of childhood is a huge part of our holiday attitude and beliefs – like our thoughts on girlfriends. When we stop to think back to when we were growing up, our friends were our world to us. They were our teachers and confidants. They helped shape our sense of humor and interest in sports, music, ‘fashion’ and TV idols.

Take some time this holiday to remember your childhood, and get back to the basics that made you happy when life wasn’t nearly so hectic or scary. Think about your girlfriends growing up and the fun times you had together. Look up old friends on Facebook or Myspace. Call up girlfriends and catch up with each other.

The holidays are a great reminder of our childhood and the importance of friendship. Girlfriends really are a gift to be treasured. They help us grow into ourselves and love us just how we are. Girlfriends are there for us – whatever, whenever and wherever – and that’s pretty magical.
