Girlfriend Lesson – Do you NEED a friend?
Hey girlfriend – ever need a safe place? Ever need a friend?
Last week our friends asked us to be their witnesses for signing their will. (We learned this meant we were not include in the will, an ‘oversight’ we tried to overlook!) As they thanked us for making time to do this, I reminded them - friends ask friends for favors. That shows we need each other, and we all want to be needed – right?
My girlfriend Pam shared the following story that further confirms this human need to be needed and find a safe place in a friendship:
I just had the greatest girlfriend story. My great friend from college had a little bit of a life crisis. She needed to run from her hard stuff and find a safe place to recover. She came to me. When she was in the midst of hardship and needed recovery & restoration- she came to me. It’s like we find a piece of home in our friendship. So beautiful. Perfect girlfriend story.
Do you need a friend? Or wonder why a friend always asks you for your help? Are there friends you should reach out to for their support, encouragement, assistance or a safe place to recover?
By not asking, you take away their opportunity to be needed. Open yourself up to building into your friendships by offering and seeking friends’ help.
Share how you’ve found a ‘home’ in your friendships or the joy you’ve had when friends sought your assistance. Share how you NEED friends. Inspire us!
