Girlfriend Gratitude and the Holidays (aka: Friendship is the best present)
Do the holidays bring on a sense of gratitude? Are you reminded of how much your girlfriends bless your life?
From the initial planning stages of Thanksgiving, through the New Years, my sense of gratitude is heightened. I recognize the women in my life who have helped me throughout the year, who have come into my life recently and those who have stood by me through many years and countless challenges. My girlfriends from college (who, like me, don’t age!), my neighbors aka: ‘non-guilt book club’ sisters, the amazing women I’ve met through my church and community of local women like Cincinnati Women Bloggers, and all the other women who bless my life – each one has directly or indirectly helped form me. They’ve made an imprint on my personality, my passions and taught me more lessons than on all the pages of books I could ever read.
This seasonal feeling of gratitude is a huge part of why I love the holidays. The tradition of evaluating the past and planning for the future can’t even happen without the consideration and appreciation of my girlfriends. The opportunity to celebrate anything, of course, has to involve girlfriends – in order for it to be fun and special. Even the process of gift giving, is best when it involves a friend and finding the perfect gift for her. It seems the holidays are as much as about girlfriends as they are about families and kids. To me, my girlfriends are my family, so I savor these friendships and special days to celebrate them.
It’s been on my mind a lot this week. There was a tragedy in our community that caused us all to stop and re-evaluate life and the holidays. Sadly, these situations are the times we get back to the basics of gratitude and love. Tears somehow clear our eyes so we can see the important things like friendship and family, and holidays that allow us to stop and celebrate these relationships.
So, when girlfriend Barbara shared this video with me, I knew I had to share it with you. It’s pretty powerful and the kind of thing that you’ll want to send on to your girlfriends. When you forward this to them, remember to thank them for blessing your life with their friendship and love. Show some girlfriend gratitude. Celebrate your girlfriends and stay in touch. Life is too short to miss any opportunity to connect, bless and love on each other. Happy Holidays dear girlfriend.
