Creative girlfriend gift to make

Want to make a fun creative girlfriend gift?

Creative girlfriend gifts are the best! They’re personal, personalized gifts that say your friendship is so dear to you that you even spent time (much less materials) to make something special. So, look no further for a creative gift idea. Fiskars (the people who bring you scissors with orange handles) shared this idea for a mini scrapbook for a great girlfriend gift.

Fiskars Girlfriend Mini Album

Girlfriend gift - mini album

From Fiskars Crafts:

What you will need:

  • Kaiser Craft designer wood album
  • Heidi Grace Oh So Loved Papers
  • Coordinating Cardstock
  • Black ink
  • Pink Paint
  • Mod Podge or other craft glue
  • Alphabet for Title
  • Kaiser Rhinestones
  • Cloud 9 Epoxy Stickers
  • Chipboard shapes
  • Ribbon
  • Binding rings
  • Mrs Grossman’s Pen & Ink stickers
  • Pop dots or dimensional tape
  • Lil Davis Glitter Glaze
  • Glimmer mist
  • Friendship quotes
  • 12″ trimmer
  • Anywhere hole punch
  • Paintbrushes
  • Fiskars Soft touch scissors

Gniminipaint

  • Using a paint brush evenly coat all sides and edges of all album pages with Mod Podge or other sealer.  This is not essential however I find that it makes the album smoother and helps the glue to stick later on.
  • Using a paint brush and pink paint cover all edges in colour.  These edges will be visible when the album is complete.
  • Select your papers for each page and cover all pages front and back.  For this you could use double sided tape however Mod Podge is my choice for this type of project. You will find it much easier to punch your holes as you do each page.  Punch the holes in the first side of the page then flip it over and do the reverse side after sticking the paper down. If you wish to you could now add black ink to each of the edges.

Gniminiprint

  • You can now plan your quotes and print them out on coordinating cardstock.  I use text boxes in a word processing document and make them all varying sizes.  Look for quotes of different lengths to add variety to your album.  When you have printed them cut them all out and ink the edges if desired.  Put the quotes aside for now.
  • Adhere the transparent ‘pen & ink’ stickers to cardstock and carefully cut around the images using the edge of the sticker as your guide.  Put these aside

Gniminibird

  • You can now prepare your chipboard shapes.  On the birds I used pink paint, glitter glaze and finished off with a light coat of glimmer mist.  I then inked the edges and added a Kaiser jewel for the eye.  For the hearts in the album I simply covered pink hearts in a thick coat of glitter glaze.
  • Once all of the elements are dry you can now start having the fun of assembling your album.  If you have an album with uneven sized pages like mine you will need to stack the pages in the correct order from time to time to make sure that the layered effect is pleasing to the eye.  If you have all matching sized pages then you can work on one page at a time.
  • Lay out all of the quotes in the way that works best.  It can be like a jigsaw puzzle getting them all to fit but be patient.  Leave some gaps which will be filled with the transparent stickers and epoxy stickers.  Add in your title and finish off with some bling and your chipboard shapes.
  • Use rings to bind your album and there you have your completed mini album.
