Meet Mommy Girlfriendology Guru – Mary Ann
Girlfriendology Gurus are women with a passion to help other women. This definitely describes our new “Mommy Guru” Mary Ann Lowry. Mary Ann loves being a mom and also helping other mothers in living their best life. Plus, her background and education in teaching children make her a welcomed, wise, helpful girlfriend to ‘know!’
From Mary Ann:
Greetings Girlfriends,
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as the “Girlfriend Guru for Mommies”. Women, who are raising children, have the best job in the world and the most important job in the world. Though you may not be featured on the Nightly News, what happens every day between you and your children is the true flavor of the world and our future. Taking the time to build those bonds and connections with your younger children, while they are still from birth to high school, sets the stage for a relationship to last a lifetime.
One of my favorite moments from the summer Olympics was watching Michael Phelps on the Gold Medal Stand waiting to receive yet another gold medal. My sons were both into swim meets and I can remember my years spending week-ends around various pool decks, so I had a real admiration for his years of sacrifice to reach this moment.
The attention of the world, corporate America and certainly the press were focused on Michael. However, the most important person in Michael’s world at that time was his Mother. He mouthed, “Where’s My Mom?”, since it was imperative that she see him receive another Gold Medal. As another swim Mom, I was happy that she got some type of recognition for all the hot dogs she sold through the years to support Michael’s swim team (Just kidding!). Yet, I know my Girlfriends give away lots of time to be there for their children with very little recognition. However, your presence speaks volumes.
I’m enthusiastic about helping Moms, because I want your son or your daughter to develop that type of relationship with you. Even though my sons are in their early 20’s and considered adults, they still look to me for advice and to share the highlights of their life with me. Those moments of “Where’s my Mom?” will last a lifetime, if you put the time in now to develop a supportive, structured and nurturing relationship with your children.
Girlfriends, I want this for all of you. Now is prime time in your child’s life. You have a rewarding, yet challenging job as a Mom. If I am able to offer a word of encouragement or advice, I’ll be happy to do so. I’m passionate about my role as a coach or mentor to Moms. Look to me as one of your more seasoned girlfriends, who would delight in answering some of your most challenging questions related to parenting.
I look forward to meeting you via your posts in the “Mommy Guru” section on the “Girlfriendology” web site.
Enjoy the Day! Mary Ann, a Martha Beck Certified Family Coach, www.createanewseason.com

Every day a Mom is stressing over planning the perfect Princess Party. I know because I hosted hundreds of them throughout NJ. I also know that the real secret to a successful Princess Party is “how you make the children feel”. You can do that with a pretty princess dress, magic wand or simple tiara, but what you really need to do is to tell them how lovely they are. Show them how a Princess might wave to the crowd and have them try it. Show them how a princess might walk, sit or courtsey. They will love it and mostly they will love how they feel! Simple, yet stressless party perfection.
