My Girlfriends … that’s why I STAND UP 2 CANCER

Are you like me? That you have too many girlfriends who are dealing with cancer? I hope you’re not but I know for too many of us, cancer steals memories that we could make together as healthy, happy friends.

I had the opportunity to be in a video about ‘what I stand for’ and, of course, it has to be my girlfriends. Check out this cool video that shows too many faces of friends and family who are dealing with, or have had to deal with, cancer.

Although you can’t see in the video (and I knew it would be too small to read) but I had to go ahead and add the names of my girlfriends (in the bottom right corner of the poster) who have battled cancer successfully and not. It is in their honor and memory that I pray for a solution, a miracle, a respite from struggling for the inalienable rights of health, happiness and freedom to live.

Stand up 2 Cancer - for my Girlfriends

So, this video - for me, is dedicated in memory of Holly (my sweet artsy girlfriend), Anne-Marie (a strong and determined friend), Colleen (a college buddy whose memorial is tomorrow) and in honor and celebration of Dana (my ‘Big Chill’ best friend), Allison (the jock who kicks butt every Sat. when we walk), Carole (my dear former co-worker), Jeannine (another walking pal), Melissa (a friend from church), and Peggy and Nikki (neighbor girlfriends).

And, since you see it pretty quickly and I wanted to feature my fabulous female friends, here’s some still shots submitted.

My Stand Up 2 Cancer girlfriends

Thanks girlfriends for inspiring me and for your friendships. You are the reason I started Girlfriendology. You make me laugh, cry and wish all I had was time to spend together. I’d stand up 2 anything for you. I stand up 2 cancer. So can you. Visit www.StandUp2Cancer.org.

UPDATE: Every day 1500 Americans die from cancer. It finds us in our neighborhoods and our cities. Our countrysides and our schools. But it’s a disease we must seek out and distroy. We have the brilliance. The technology. All we need is you and me.

This is where the end of cancer begins. Watch for “Stand Up 2 Cancer” on all three networks on Friday, Sept. 5th, 8pm EST/PT and 7pm CT.

Thanks for sharing this video! I have two girlfriends who had cancer. One passed away in 2006 and the other is a SURVIVOR! The one who passed on is an angel…she introduced me to her friend, who is now my friend for five years, who survived cancer and is doing well today. The video is a great reminder that everyone is touched in some way by cancer and we need to find a cure!
