Is it me, or is 2013 off to a quick start? We’re really only a few days into the year, but somehow it seems to me time is just flying past.

Girlfriend Guru RACHEL AWES reminds us to slow down and take time to take care of ourselves this year. We want to hear how you are taking time for you in 2013–we think we should all help each other have the best year ever.

The holidays of 2012 have past. It is now January. A new year. A new you. A new me.

In the transition from there to here, might we take a breath together, girlfriend?

How about we claim January as the month of bubble baths? Of naps and gentle walks and book-reading? How about we take out our recipe books and find something fresh to make? With dill and rosemary, lemon and almond? What if we took this month to rest?friendship,rest and recover, rejuvenate

I know my body needs replenishing. I have gotten out of the swing of exercise and healthy eating and resting, and if I am going to stretch well into the gift of another year, then I will need this month to re-fuel. How about each of you?

Fresh Tomato, Avocado, and Pine Nut Pasta Sauce with Balsamic Vinegar

4 large ripe tomatoes
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 avocado, diced
a handful of pine nuts, toasted
a handful of basil leaves, shredded
2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
enough spaghetti for 4 people

Soak the tomatoes in boiling water for a couple of minutes to loosen their skins. Skin the tomatoes, remove the hard core, and chop them into a serving bowl. Add the crushed garlic, diced avocado, toasted pine nuts, and basil to the bowl. Sprinkle the balsamic vinegar over the top and fold all of the ingredients together. Cook the spaghetti and drain well. Combine with the pasta sauce and serve immediately.Girlfriend Guru,thankful for friends
