The finest clothing made is a person’s skin, but, of course, society demands something more than this. ~Mark Twain
Do you remember the commercial (from a LONG time ago) where the woman was working from home in pink bunny slippers? For many of us, wearing pajamas while working seemed like the ultimate in luxury. Then we discovered that we sometimes like the relaxed feel of PJs, but there is something confidence-inspiring about getting dressed and feeling great in whatever we’re wearing.
Girlfriend guru and style expert DONNA GAMACHE reminds us that confidence comes from the inside (but that the right clothes can help bring that confidence out). What are your tips for dressing to feel confident?
Where does confidence come from? Is it something you are born with? Do you learn to be confident from your parents and teachers? Do we learn confidence through our accomplishments? These questions can be answered in different ways depending on who you are talking to. The most important thing for you to know about confidence is this: confidence comes from the inside and from knowing who you are and why you are on planet earth.
No matter what you belief about being born with confidence, there seems to be a change when we reach puberty. We seem to be more concerned with what others think and stop relying on who we are on the inside. Those are tough years. But what puzzles me is how this continues right into adulthood for so many. Why do we let what others say to us or about us sabotage our confidence?
The reason we start losing confidence is because we lose sight of how we are created uniquely. There is no other YOU. If you don’t have confidence to do what you are put here to do, others lose out and that is sad.
I help clients build confidence by embracing who they are on the inside…not who others think they are or who they may want to be…but who they are. I call it confidence from the inside out. This inside out confidence makes you authentic and irresistible. People are naturally drawn to you and that improves your life and business.
Here are some steps to help you feel more confident in your appearance:
- Be true to who you are from the inside out
- Don’t be influenced by what others think and wear
- Choose clothes that fit your personal style and shape
- Pick a signature style that reflects your unique self
- Choose a hairstyle that suits your style and face shape
- Stay up to date with makeup applications to bring our your best features
- Build a closet of clothes that fits your style so you get dressed easily and confidently
