Girlfriend Guru, thankful for friends“In the eyes of a child…there is joy, there is laughter… there is hope, there is trust, a chance to shape the future…” ~Air Supply

“Thank Heaven, for Little Girls….” Can you hear Maurice Chevalier singing? There is something about little girlfriends that makes us smile and (usually) want to capture the moment (especially when they are someone else’s little girl and therefore behaving beautifully).

Girlfriend Guru RACHEL AWES reminds us how precious time with little girlfriends is. How we need to search it out, and foster it. Because as Maurice sang, little girls get bigger every day, so we need to enjoy our time with these very special girlfriends.

I adore the gift of young girlfriends. They give amazing hugs. Their hello is untempered joy. Their legs still know how to leap into arms and hearts still know how to go all the way open.

I have a handful of gorgeous girlfriends at church. They occasionally braid my hair at coffee hour. Typically this looks like one girl on the right side of my head and one on the other. Currently I have two colorful extensions on one side and three on the other side and that can pose a temporary bit of tension (who gets more color) but they work it out. The conversation is delightful and I leave it transformed. Loved up and looking fancy.

Traveling alongside my nieces as they grew up was a loveliness. I treasure memories of cozying up together and watching a movie and holding hands and skipping down isles to buy shampoo. The ordinary became extraordinary.

These dear hearts have so much to offer. I open up my hands and gaze at my palms that have been so tenderly touched and whisper out “thank you.” I only hope that I can grow into being as wise as they and learn how to leap into arms and keep my heart all the way open.
