TIP TUESDAY #31: Best Beauty Advice for Girlfriends

Tip TuesdayWhat’s your favorite beauty secret? Which girlfriends do you go to for advice on fashion, make-up, hair and all things girlie? Needing all the beauty advice I can get, I look to my girlfriend Cath who is a girlie-girl and loves to buy and try new soaps, lotions and all things ‘girlie.’

Dove recently found that girlfriends make us feel prettier. I definitely believe that and love those gal pals I can be myself with and still feel beautiful - even with little/no make-up and in my work-out clothes! But, unfortunately, our girlfriends aren’t with us all the time to make us feel as gorgeous as we should.

So, girlfriends, what beauty tips can you share for this week’s question:

Our TIP TUESDAY QUESTION IS:

What’s your favorite beauty tip(s) or advice for girlfriends?

Girl Talk, by Gigi Garner

It helps to know the right girlfriends for the right advice, right? Well, we have one to introduce you to who can help with a wide range of girlfriend advice. Gigi Garner is the author of Girl Talk: Celebrities and Other Extraordinary Women Share their Secrets. Filled with advice from celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis, Joan and Melissa Rivers, Lucie Arnez, as well as teachers, accountants, bankers, artists and more extraordinary women.

Here are some beauty tips from her book:

  • Hair coloring

Add a packet of ‘Sweet and Low’ to hair dye to reduce skin irritation - Tina Cassady Smith (hair stylist to Penelope Cruz, Liv Tyler, Catherine Zeta-Jones, etc.)

  • If the only time you have to paint your nails is right before going to bed, avoid wrinkles from the sheets by dipping your freshly-painted nails in ice water and then brush lightly with baby oil.
  • Remove dry heal skin by rubbing your feet (gently) on the floor of a pool. (Being in the water first will soften the skin.)
  • Put liner pencils in refridgerator prior to sharpening them to avoid them breaking off.

Gigi will be featured in our podcast interview this week, so come back and listen. Thanks Gigi for sharing such great advice in your new book. It’s like a visit with a girlfriend group who know everything!

So, now it’s YOUR TURN! Be a girlfriend and share your beauty tips. What make-up, hair, pampering advice do you have for your girlfriends?

I’m an Independent Consultant for Virgin Vie At Home, the UK’s largest party plan company.

My favourite beauty tip is that it is very important to look after your neck. The neck is one of the most neglected parts of a woman’s body and can really give away your age.

You should ensure your neck is well moisturised. One of the best ways of doing this is to ‘double-layer’ moisturiser on your neck and throat area. Apply your face moisturiser all the way down to your collarbone, and apply your body moisturiser all the way up to your chin.

There are also lots of products on the market aimed specifically for this much-neglected area. My favourite is, of course, Virgin Vie’s Necker Gel. This exquisiate gel is so lush and moreish for pampering your neck and decolletage. It feels fantastic on your skin and it smells divine. It is also rumoured to contain aphrodisiac ingredients!

What better way to prepare your neck for some ‘loving’?!

I have 2 tips to share.

    1. When you get mascara on your skin don’t hurry and wipe it off right away. Let it completely dry. Then use a Q-tip to whisk it away. Come right off with no smudging.

    2. I feel like a million bucks after a foot bath. First I set the mood with candles, and a nice drink in a pretty goblet or mug/tea cup depending upon what I’m drinking. I get out the fluffiest, prettiest towels I have and put on soothing music. The fancy foot baths are nice but lately I’ve just been using a plastic tub. I bought pretty stones from the dollar store for the bottom. I add whatever I have whether bath salts, foot fizzies, epsom salts & my favorite essential oil, etc. Just make sure it smells good. Then just relax with a good book. Towards the end before the water gets too cold I’ll use a foot file to remove calluses. After I dry my feet I follow that with a yummy shea butter foot lotion and then cotton socks. Oh my gosh! It all feels sooo good!!
