What would the world be like if children grew up to be leaders? If they were encouraged to do their best, follow their dreams and that their opinions were valued? How would the world change as they passed along this legacy of leadership and creativity to future generations?
Our podcast guest KELLY CURTIS is daring to explore these questions and to assist in establishing an environment where children can grow, thrive, think and learn to lead. Her new book, Empowering Youth: How to Encourage Young Leaders to Do Great Things focuses on the development of the Empowerment assets in young people - The ways in which a community lets young people know they are valued, treats young people as important resources, provides the opportunities and means for youthto genuinely serve others, and helps young people feel safe enough to grow into confident leaders.
Kelly also designs and produces research-based tools for prevention-minded educators through her company, Empowering Youth. And, between being a mom, school counselor, writer and advocate of the Developmental Assets approach, she also writes regularly about her experiences with parenthood on her blog, Pass the Torch.
Listen in as she shares not only how to lead young people into a leadership mindset, but how we as girlfriends can help each other develop a life of our dreams and taking leadership in our own lives.
Thanks Kelly for taking time away from your beautiful Wisconsin cabin to talk with us and share your vision for young and old alike!
Remember, listen in and make a comment below! We have two books to give away and will do a drawing from those who comment in the first ten days. Thanks!

I am so delighted with this author’s take on things. Youth needs to realize that they can, should and do make a difference. I feel like it’s been a while since a generation has been so aware of its potential to change things. I think the green movement for example, is being propelled in a big way by that generation. I like the idea of bonding as women, as girlfriends, as a community to take on that mindset of empowerment and make an impact.
well, honestly the youth are going to be taking care of the baby boomers, we really need to teach them right give them positive reinforcement. I teach all my kids- every little bit makes a differece
That was a great interview, thanks for sharing. I would love to read that book!
